Perhaps, the hotel thing is not for you this trip. But the thought of a public campground teeming with weekend warriors is less than ideal. We have about 20 acres along the mystic Icicle river just four miles from town. Before building our home, we constructed a rustic granite stone cabin that we use for guests and occassionally rent out. The trail to the cabin is short, but steep and potentially dangerous. We insist on a daylight check-in. And we urge our guest to have extra flashlights.
The cabin itself is built into the face of a huge boulder. There is a perrenial creek just outside the hand made door. There are three level areas in the vicinity suitable for tents. Yes, those are old skis.
Inside you can see the exposed boulder face. Floors are concrete. Walls are masonary with a real stone finish. A ladder-like stair goes to the loft. We do have some board games, but encourage you to bring a deck of cards. No TV here.
For heat, we have a Lopi wood stove. Firewood is provided. The largest sleeping area is the loft over the table. This would be about a queen size bed.
Across from the Queen area is a twin or possibly double area. A third sleeping area is off the floor, but below the loft. It is a double.
A cut log picnic table adjoins a firepit. Outside the cabin is a small waterfall. We have a trail that climbs from the cabin to a scenic perch and our own private 80' waterfall. Instead of showing you a photo, we will tempt you to come and see it for yourself.
We don't have all the modern conveniences, but we do have an outhouse with a gravity fed cold water flush system. So, yes, the toilet works.
Only four miles out of town, this site might be just what you are looking for. We provide the firewood. You provide everything else. The rate is $75 for one night for TWO people. Each extra person is $5, whether they stay in the cabin, in a tent or sleep out under the stars. Additional consecutive nights are just $25 each. (i.e. 2 nights/2 people = $100; 3 nights/ 3 people = $130) With waterfalls, ladders, lofts, sheer rock faces and caves, this site is not suitable for small children; or careless big people! Guests can walk to Icicle River, and a very secluded beach, from the cabin. Call Steve directly at (509) 860-1446 to discuss staying here. Chances are you will encounter some rock climbers that come for the challenge of Careno Craig and many other climbs originating on our property. Check out his cool video from Icicle.TV Leavenworth Rock Climbing from Skipow Visuals on Vimeo. Rock climbing in Leavenworth has a rich history, with the first technical rock climbs in the state recorded here in the late 1940s. The great peaks of the Stuart Range towering above the town attract climbers from around the globe. |
